Statically Linked Version Of Quick PDF Library

December 17, 2010

Exciting news for all of our C/C++ customers: we’ve just finished creating a statically linked version of Quick PDF Library.

The LIB Edition of Quick PDF Library is generated automatically by converting the DLL Edition into a static link library. The static link library file is called QuickPDFLIB0723.lib and a header file called QuickPDFLIB0723.h is included.

The new .LIB version will be included with the 7.23 release which will be made public very soon.

Make sure you read the getting started guide for the new .LIB version when you get it for some information on link dependencies and initializing/releasing the library.

  1. Rowan,
Is there more information available on the .lib version and how it works? In our development environment (UniPaas), we don’t reference include files, and as I’ve mentioned before, we need a way to reference a the active-x library independent of the release number. We’re wondering how this .lib version addresses that.

  2. Hi Garyl,

The LIB edition means that Quick PDF Library can be used as a statically-linked library (instead of as a dynamically linked library like the ActiveX and DLL editions currently are). More info here:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Static_library

This basically means that you can distribute an EXE without need to distribute a DLL as well. This isn’t going to help your situation, I’ll review your case with our development team over the next few weeks and see what changes we can make it version 7.24 and 7.25 to address your needs.

    Cheers,
    – Rowan.
